Moremi Game Reserve

Moremi Game Reserve is located on the eastern side of the Okavango Delta and covers approximately 4,871 km2 - roughly 20% of the Delta. It has been described as one of the most beautiful wildlife reserves in Africa, combining mopane woodland and acacia forests with floodplains and lagoons.

The Reserve boasts an extensive variety of vegetation and wildlife with the mainland forming only 30% of the Reserve - noticeably Chief's Island in the centre and the Mopane Tongue in the east with its exceptionally tall mopane trees. The rest of the Moremi reserve is a labyrinth of waterways.

There is an abundance of bird-life including numerous water birds - a paradise for bird watchers. In the dry season, when most of Botswana is drying up, the Delta's twisting water channels swell from the floodwaters flowing into it attracting a multitude of animals numbering tens of thousands. Elephants, buffalo, lions, leopards, wild dogs & hyenas are only a few of the types to be found roaming the reserve, with hippos and crocodiles dominating the wetlands and riverbanks. Moremi Game Reserve is accessible either by air or road, although self-drives are highly recommended for experienced 4x4 drivers due to the deterioration of the sandy roads within the reserve.
